The Best Food in Oahu

Food is the best. Food + paradise together = heaven on earth? Just maybe. Read on to learn about the best food in Oahu.

The Best Shave Ice

Angel’s Ice Cream

When you’re in Hawaii, you’ve gotta get shaved ice. Masumoto is a famous place to get shave ice, but honestly, the best place is Angel’s Ice Cream in Laie. The ice is much finer, so it melts in your mouth. Add some soft serve ice cream and you’re in heaven. Also, their chocolate milkshakes are delectable. Be warned though, it’s closed on Sunday so make sure you plan accordingly!

The #1 Acai

The Sunrise Shack

I LOVE acai, so I got it at local spots on the island almost every day. The sunrise shack had my favorite acai. The acai is very flavorful and dense, and the house-made pink dragon-fruit sauce is the bomb. I ordered the acai bowl, substituted blueberries for strawberries, and also added some peanut butter, which was super delicious.

A Notable Mention: Banzai bowl is good if you are looking for a HUGE acai bowl. It’s super good too, but I think sunrise shack has more flavor in their acai.

A Delicious Classic Burger And Fries

7 Brothers

food in oahu 7 brothers

7 Brothers has some great burgers… and fries… and acai. And they had Nutella milkshakes at one point. Yum! If you are looking for a classic American meal, this is the best place. The meat tastes fresh, the fries are addictive, and the fry sauce is so yummy! They have Seven Brothers in Utah, but other than that, Hawaii is the only spot to have the delicious dining experience.

The Best Bakery

Ted’s Bakery

What a delicious (and busy) bakery. They have a little bit of everything. Their breakfast croissants and pastries are delicious, their frozen hot chocolate, and what they are famous for, their PIES. The bakery is known for their chocolate haupia pie. Haupia is a filling that tastes coconutty as well as creamy. If you like coconut, this will be just the pie for you.

Since I don’t enjoy coconut, I preferred the chocolate pie, chocolate peanut butter pie, and dobash cake (yes, we sampled a bunch of the options!) The plate lunches are also celebrated here. Really, if you’re on the north side of the island, you’ve gotta come check out Ted’s.

Notable Mention: Pounders

While the food at Pounders is nothing to write home about, the Taro rolls are amazing. I would definitely recommend getting some “to go” if nothing else. Also, if go to the restaurant, the short rib was delicious! I greatly enjoyed my meal, but other people at my table were not as thrilled with theirs- so that’s why I say it’s nothing to write home about. If you are at the PCC, you might as well pick up some warm, purple taro rolls to go!

The Best Plate Lunch

Anywhere

From short ribs, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki steak, garlic chicken… the meat is so good! I was satisfied with all of the plate lunches we got on the island, so I don’t think you can go wrong. Also, we bought a rotisserie chicken at a shop along the side of the road making them fresh. And I truly believe it was the best chicken I’ve ever had in my life. So be sure to eat some local plate lunches and local chicken!

Our Favorite Pizza

Jax’s Wood Fired Pizza in Haleiwa is a great place. The pizza is made with Italian flour and cooked in their wood oven. The pizza is excellent and the owner and staff are super friendly! Great place to visit.

Pineapple Heaven

Dole Pineapple Plantation

While you’re in Oahu, you’ve gotta go to the Dole Pineapple plantation. They have the famous dole whip as well as many dole whip connotations. I also ate teriyaki chicken here, and once again, it was a fantastic plate lunch.
